Bulgaria destroys large quantities of expired vaccine doses against Covid-19 and no longer wants to buy new vaccine doses. “At this point in time there are no people willing to be vaccinated at all,” Acting Minister of Health Assen Medschdiev said in an interview on state television in Sofia on Saturday. According to Medschdiev, after Bulgaria had already destroyed “huge amounts” of expired corona vaccines, another 2.8 million doses are to be disposed of this year.
He has informed the EU Commission that Bulgaria is in favor of ending a deal with Biontech/Pfizer, according to which his country is obliged to buy vaccines by 2025, the minister said. This attitude is also supported by Poland, the Czech Republic and Lithuania. Bulgaria has the lowest corona vaccination rate in the EU.
