Kaplangyr Reserve: the List of Creatures Goes on

New species of invertebrates have been added to the list of Kaplangir State Reserve. This was made possible as a result of multi-year scientific and research activities and visits of the agency’s specialists in 2019-2022 to study the current situation and biodiversity of the region.

The beautiful view of the northern region of the country, where a part of the desert and a flat plateau, several large reservoirs, and the forest are located, and nature protection activities contribute to the continuous increase of the fauna of the reserve.

For example, Reomyur’s donkey, side-walking and ring-weaving owl, caterpillar and jumping owl, tenechir from the lyutka family belonging to the Denganatli family, horn-winged empuza included in the Red Book of Turkmenistan, the famous mahogany butterfly and others have now been added to the list of fauna of these places.

The fauna of Kaplangyr Reserve includes many species of mammals, birds, reptiles and fish, crustaceans and molluscs. The staff of the reserve regularly monitors them, which contributes to the improvement of the management of the reserve and the protection of flora and fauna, including those included in the Red Book and endemic species. Specialists of the reserve conduct the study and preservation of the genetic base of fauna and flora, preserve the entire local ecosystem in its natural state, develop scientific methods of environmental protection, and spread environmental awareness.
