ISW: Ukraine is Advancing on Several Fronts

The Ukrainian Defense Forces are attacking in several directions of the front. In particular, the Armed Forces of Ukraine have liberated a settlement in the Bakhmut direction and are advancing in the western part of the Zaporozhye region, the American Institute for the Study of War (ISW) reports on Friday, July 28.

According to them, on July 27, the Armed Forces of Ukraine advanced north of Kleshchievka, which is 7 km southwest of Bakhmut. The defense forces also continued offensive operations north and south of the walled city. Meanwhile, Russian sources claimed that Ukrainian forces carried out assaults near Zheleznyansky, Berkhovka, Kleschievka, Andreevka and Severny.

It is noted that on July 27, the Russian army counterattacked around Bakhmut, but did not achieve any confirmed success. The Armed Forces of Ukraine repelled Russian attacks north of Khromovoye, north and south of Kleshchievka, and east of Druzhba. It is noted that on July 27, Ukrainian forces carried out limited ground attacks in the Avdiivka-Donetsk sector.

Russian troops conducted unsuccessful offensive operations near Avdiivka and Maryinka. The Russians continue to try to cordon off Avdiivka. The fighting in this area is as intense as in the Bakhmut direction.

Ukrainian troops liberated Staromayorskoe, which is 9 km south of Velika Novoselka. Some Russian sources expressed concern about Russia’s ability to hold on to Urozhaynoye. Analysts also note that Russian troops launched unsuccessful ground attacks to repel lost positions near Staromayorsky on July 27.

The Armed Forces of Ukraine continued offensive operations in the west of the Zaporozhye region and advanced in this area. Geolocation footage indicates that Ukrainian troops have further advanced east of Robotinoe, 10 km south of Orekhov. Ukrainian forces also made a significant advance in the Melitopol direction.

“Ukrainian forces have likely moved further into western Zaporizhzhya Oblast than the ISW has now been able to visually confirm. Geolocation footage released on July 27 shows that one Ukrainian armored vehicle reached Russian anti-tank positions southwest of Verbove (17km southeast of Orekhovo ), about 3.5 kilometers from the current estimate of the ISW front line,” the report said.

Today, the General Staff also reported that the Russians were again advancing near Maryinka . The General Staff also confirms the liberation of the village of Staromayorskoe. At the same time, in the areas of Rovnopolye and Makarovka, the enemy made an unsuccessful attempt to restore the lost position.
