A few days ago, 18-year-old Dmitriy Rochsha and his girlfriend had been visiting a beach in Thailand when the unthinkable happened. The young Kazakhstani disappeared into the sea.
Despite authorities’ best efforts, the youth could not be found. It was only yesterday (3rd September), that his body was discovered on a beach by a beach lifeguard.
On 1st September, Dmitriy Rochsha, son of a wealthy Kazakhstan businessman, had been on a holiday with his girlfriend in Phuket, reportedly with other friends. According to the girlfriend, the couple had been at Nai Yang Beach, playing about in the sea prior to the incident.
The girlfriend later went to wait for Dmitriy on the beach as she was not good at swimming and the waves were reportedly big that day. Dmitriy continued swimming but when she looked away for a second, he disappeared. Realising he might have been swept under, she ran to the locals for help.
Despite authorities’ best efforts in searching for the Kazakhstan tourist, it was to no avail. To make matters worse, the bad weather made the search harder. At 6am on 3rd September, a lifeguard made a report to the police after spotting something large washed up on the beach, 1km away from the incident’s location. He reportedly suspected it was Dmitriy’s body.
Unfortunately, authorities confirmed that the corpse found did belong to Dmitriy Rochsha. The body was then reportedly taken to Vachira Phuket hospital for an autopsy. His distraught family too has flown in from Kazakhstan and are coordinating with the hospital regarding the autopsy.
But, police have apparently stated that there were no visible marks on Dmitriy’s corpse indicating a struggle or a violent death. For now, it is believed that the cause of death is drowning. Additionally, although police initially reported him as a “missing Russian”, they have clarified that he is from Kazakhstan.
Authorities have since cautioned the public about the severe weather Phuket and five other provinces are facing and have reissued their weather advisory. Our hearts go out to Dmitriy Rochsha’s family and those who knew him. We sincerely hope they will find peace in his passing.
