Uzbekistan and China Establish International Laboratory in Samarkand


The Silk Road International University of Tourism and Cultural Heritage, in cooperation with the Chinese Shaanxi province, hosted an event dedicated to opening the China – Uzbekistan International Laboratory for Scientific and Technical Archeology and the Protection of Cultural Heritage, UzA reported.

The event, which was attended by archaeologists, researchers and students from China and Uzbekistan, was also visited by Party Secretary of Shaanxi province Zhao Yide, Vice President of the Northwest University of China Chang Jiang, Rector of the Silk Road International University of Tourism and Cultural Heritage Aziz Abdukhakimov, Deputy Head of Samarkand region Rustam Qobilov.

According to the idea of the Northwest University of China under the auspices of the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO), this project is being created in Samarkand campus of the International Tourism Academy. The laboratory consists of two specialized departments for biochemical research and the study of animal skeletons, which have created opportunities for the analysis of archaeological materials found on the territory of Uzbekistan.

395 square meters are allocated for the laboratory on the 8th floor of the International Tourism Academy. Northwest University of China has delivered 90 units of laboratory equipment of 36 types, costing 1 billion 587 million soums. Specialists from the Northwest University of China have been involved in coordinating the laboratory’s construction and equipment installation according to special standards.

The parties exchanged views on the further development of cooperation at the event, improving the effectiveness of the ongoing project, and defined tasks for future.
