Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan Kamikawa Yoko hosted the Dialogue with Central Asia session on November.
At the outset of the session, Minister Kamikawa expressed her pleasure to invite the Central Asian countries online to the G7 Foreign Ministers’ Meeting for the first time. She stated that Central Asia is an important partner in maintaining and strengthening the free and open international order based on the rule of law, and hopes that today’s dialogue will provide an opportunity to discuss areas of cooperation between the Central Asian countries and the G7.
The Central Asian countries expressed their gratitude for the opportunity to participate in the G7 Foreign Ministers’ Meeting for the first time and their hopes for the continuation of such dialogue.
Furthermore, Minister Kamikawa stated that there is more potential in the relationship between Japan and Central Asia, and Japan would like to promote efforts to strengthen our relations towards the “Central Asia plus Japan” Dialogue Summit next year.
In addition, Minister Kamikawa stated that Japan would like to continue to implement mutually beneficial cooperation for both Central Asia and G7 members.
Kyrgyzstan was represented by Minister of Foreign Affairs Avazbek Atakhanov.
In his speech, Deputy Foreign Minister Atakhanov noted that in recent years interaction in Central Asia has been actively and successfully developing in political, trade, economic, investment, transport, hydropower, cultural, humanitarian and other areas. At the same time, the dynamics and directions of regional cooperation are set by consultative meetings of the heads of state of Central Asia, which today have become an effective platform for the exchange of views of heads of state and the determination of further vectors of regional interaction.
In this context, as a positive example, he reported that the first EU-Central Asia Economic Forum at the level of heads of government, launched in Bishkek in 2021, has become a starting point for business and stakeholders for dialogue, exchange of ideas and building partnerships.
In light of the onset of serious global threats to humanity associated with climate change, the representative of Kyrgyzstan emphasized the importance of the joint implementation of the resolution declaring 2023-2027 the “Five Year of Action for the Development of Mountain Regions”, adopted at the 77th UN General Assembly last year, initiated by President Sadyr Japarov. In this regard, Kyrgyzstan proposes to create a Global Fund for the Development of Mountain Countries to achieve the Goals for the Sustainable Development of Mountain Regions.
