A guest house in Kazakhstan’s largest city , Almaty, caught fire on Thursday (30/11/2023). As a result, dozens of people died, according to a report by the Almaty Emergency Department.
Local police explained that of the 13 fatalities, nine of them were citizens of Kazakhstan. Meanwhile two people came from Russia and two more people from Uzbekistan.
The fire occurred in the early hours of local time. The fire engulfed the three-story building, the ground floor and basement of which were occupied by 72 inn guests.
The victims died of carbon monoxide (CO) poisoning. Meanwhile, 59 other people managed to get out of the building.
The Zakon.kz page , citing authorities, reported that four people had to undergo medical treatment, including a student from India. Until this news was published, the cause of the fire was still unclear.
Local authorities said they had formed a special commission to investigate the incident.
