Slovak carriers today, December 1, began blocking the checkpoint on the border with Ukraine.

Speaker of the State Border Guard Service Andrey Demchenko stated this in a commentary to RBC-Ukraine .

“During interaction with the Slovak border guards, information was received about the beginning of blocking the movement of trucks in the direction of the Vyshne Nemecke – Uzhgorod checkpoints. Partial blocking of the cargo direction is carried out by Slovak carriers,” the statement says.

According to available information, the blocking may be permanent. It is also currently known that, preliminary, the passage of trucks heading out of Slovakia will be carried out at a rate of 4 vehicles per hour, and traffic for humanitarian aid, fuel and other important cargo will not be blocked.

Traffic for trucks in the direction of entry into Slovakia will be provided as usual.

“If we receive other information from the Slovak side, we will inform you additionally. Currently, on the territory of Slovakia towards Ukraine, there are about 900 cargo vehicles in line,” Demchenko added.

Blockade of the Ukrainian border

Let us remind you that since November 6, the movement of freight transport on the Ukrainian-Polish border has been difficult. As of November 30, truck traffic is restricted at four checkpoints.

The reason for the queues at the border was strikes by Polish carriers. They demand a return to the permitting system for our country. RBC-Ukraine visited the Ukrainian-Polish border, where queues of trucks formed for more than 20 km. More details in our material.

We also note that on November 21, Slovak carriers began to block the movement of trucks in the direction of Ukraine through the Vyshne Nemecke – Uzhgorod checkpoint. However, the next day the border was unblocked.

And yesterday it was reported that Slovak carriers are going to block one of the checkpoints on the border with Ukraine on December 1. We are talking specifically about the checkpoint “Vishne Nemetske – Uzhgorod”. After the closure of routes through Poland, traffic flow through Slovakia increased. Therefore, the Slovaks also want the introduction of permits for Ukrainian carriers.
