Kazakhstan has declassified more than 2.4 million archive cards of victims of political repression between 1929 and 1956. This was reported by the press service of the Prosecutor General’s Office of Kazakhstan on September 18.
– 251,000 documents on special displaced persons were transferred to the archives of the President of Kazakhstan. 265,000 documents will be issued by the end of the year. According to the press service, 311 thousand people were acquitted among those who were specially displaced, those who were sent to exile and those who were brought to criminal responsibility.
In 2020, a state commission on vindication of victims of political persecution was established in Kazakhstan.At the first meeting of the commission held on December 3, 2020, the then chairman Kyrymbek Kosherbayev said that “historical justice will be restored in connection with the victims of political persecution during the Soviet period.”Activists and human rights defenders of Kazakhstan believe that there is political persecution in modern Kazakhstan as well. The authorities deny it.
